Ambulatory Surgery Center encounters

The notes below detail specific features of ASC encounters beyond typical Inpatient encounters in Clinical Analytics.

Profile types

To create an Ambulatory Surgery-specific profile, select the profile type called “Internal Encounters – Outpatient Diagnostics and ASC” from the dropdown.

Profile filters

Additional profiles filters for outpatient profiles include Service Location Type, Service Location, Principal APC, Principal CPT, and Patient Type.

Details

Additional columns to group by and filter on include:

  • Principal & Secondary CPT code
  • Principal & Secondary APC codes

Clinical Case summary

Demographics tab

The Demographics section of the outpatient Clinical Case Summary includes different views based on the patient type. Now you can see:

  • Whether the patient was admitted as an inpatient (yes/no)
  • Service Day of the Week
  • Service Location
  • Patient Type

DRGs, diagnosis, and procedures

This tab displays the APC grouping(s) that the patient’s case fell under.

CPT

A CPT tab has been added that includes a table with the CPT code information. This table includes detailed information such as time of service, place or service, as well as, charge and cost information.

Detail services

The Detail Services tab has been reformatted for quicker information lookup and ease of access to information. This tab also has new features, including the ability to roll up data to the CDM level.

Utilization

This section is omitted for the outpatient encounters.

Quality and Safety, patient satisfaction

Only measures that are applicable for ambulatory surgery encounters appear.
